Mental Health Care views social enterprise development as a means of achieving its mission objectives namely-

  • The social inclusion of mental health service users

  • To promote the achievement and maintenance of choice for service users in relation to employment

Social enterprises are increasingly being recognised as a key and growing part of the economy. Mental Health Care believes mental health service users should benefit from this trend.

Aim: is to develop and grow social enterprise activity across the North-East of England and provide a range of appropriate structures and services to support the development of potential, new and existing social enterprises for people with mental health problems to access training and employment.

Strategy:

  1. To access the commercial environment and local policy context to support the development of social enterprises and open new, competitive procurement opportunities. A trading umbrella company has been formed to facilitate this.

  2. To facilitate collaborative working with public and private procurers of services to create contract opportunities.
